Metro is seeking a Fair Systems Technician, Individuals in this classification must be able to troubleshoot and make repairs at the same level of skill as historically performed by "A" level Chassis Repairman. Individuals in this classification are expected to acquire additional skills and proficiency to become qualified as a General Repairperson.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Properly use hand tools, shop equipment, and power tools utilized in the repair of Metro fleet equipment and operated by Metro.
  • Act as a helper to General Repairperson in Internal Diagnosing.
  • Make road service calls and/or bus change off.
  • Make all necessary reports and keep records, both written and data entry, in accordance with the policies, procedures and requirements of federal, state, local regulations and Metro policies.
  • Make emergency repairs to non-revenue equipment
  • Understand and utilize instruments, gauges and measuring instruments needed in the assigned repair tasks.
  • Understand and work from manuals, technical bulletins, specifications, drawings, and other written procedures.
  • In the course of completion of a job or task involving Metro equipment, an employee may be required to perform work in lower classification as assigned so as to complete the job as expeditiously as possible.
  • Perform inspections, as required for Preventive Maintenance in accordance with the procedures established by Metro and vehicle manufacturer.
  • Drive any vehicle owned and operated by Metro.
  • Work in a safe manner with all the required safety protective devices in accordance with Metro safety policy and procedures.
  • Repair or replace defective mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical parts by properly using hand tools and/or power tools, and reassemble equipment.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that fare boxes and/or related components and systems continue to run smoothly, operate efficiently, and physical condition does not deteriorate.
  • Inspect, operate, and test fare system equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions.



EDUCATION/POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years vocational training in heavy-duty diesel repair plus 2 years work experience, or 2 years Genfare product experience, or 5 years of heavy-duty diesel mechanic work experience with no vocational training.
  • A valid Commercial Driver's License, Classification B, with P Endorsement (Metro will provide if necessary).
  • Must successfully complete Metro's P.I.T. Pass Training.
  • Must pass Metro's A-rate written Apprentice test and must satisfactorily complete the A-rate task list, unless previously qualified through Metro's written qualification test and hands on test.
