Job Responsibilities:
- Perform various microbiological techniques including culturing, streaking and membrane filtration
- DNA and RNA extraction from various samples types (food, water, sponges, etc.) for downstream PCR analysis
- Sample preparation for microbiological analysis and analyte extraction for chemical/biochemical analysis
- Set-up and run biochemical assays to detect contaminant compounds and determine levels of various target molecules
- Identify various micro-organisms through the use of selective media, chromogenic indicators, and morphology
- Opportunity to work in several independent research groups
- Collection and analysis of experiment data
- Literature research and troubleshooting
- Media/Reagent Preparation and QC
- Housekeeping chores such as glassware washing and autoclaving
Qualifications:
- BS/BA in biological sciences or related disciplines
- 1+ years of relevant laboratory experience including coursework
- Industry lab experience is a plus
- Must have working knowledge of aseptic techniques and laboratory skills
- Excellent organization skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work well both within a team as well as independently with minimal supervision
