This facility has 4 ORs and provides anesthesia services for approximately 2,800 surg! eries and 2,800 deliveries per year. Cases include GYN, general pediatrics and neonates.
Presently our staffing matrix calls for 5 MD's and 4 CRNA's. We run 4 OR's/day, 1/3 pediatrics and half elective c/s's and routine gynecological surgery. The remaining cases are general surgical/ENT/plastics/urology on women only.
On the OB side we are a busy facility doing 300 deliveries or more/month with a 25% C/S rate. We presently run 2 c/s rooms and 15 LDRP's. One physician and often a CRNA are needed to keep up with the volume on the OB side.
Lafayette is part of an eight-parish area called Acadiana, known as “The Cajun Heartland." The name “Acadians†or “Cajuns†came from the Acadian settlers who migrated from Canada in 1755, bringing their French-Canadian customs and language that still enrich the area. The city's economy was mostly based on agriculture until the 1940s, when the oil and gas industry became dominant like it is today. This fou! rth-largest city in the state has a growing population of over! 110,000 and is home to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. It is nestled comfortably between Houston, Texas (230 miles to the west) and New Orleans (130 miles to the east), 35 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico and 50 miles southwest of state capital Baton Rouge.
