This job works in a collaborative model including but not limited to: residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for patients on floors of Ochsner Medical Center. This job administers anesthesia to patients during the performance of surgical, obstetrical and other pain producing clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. Education Required â" Masterâs degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Work Experience Required - None. Certifications Required â" License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice C ertification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Job Duties Documents patient procedures and incidents Assesses patient before, during, and after administering anesthesia Ensures patient safety and administers anesthesia following accepted practice techniques Acts as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co-workers, patients, and families Participates in department quality assurance initiatives and activities of professional development Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
