OTRD is seeking a full-time unclassified Golf Course Manager to manage operations at Fort Cobb Golf Course in Fort Cobb, OK. OTRD provides matching contributions to employees’ retirement plans, 11 holidays, and 15 days of annual and sick leave a year. OTRD also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents. The annual salary range for this position is $38,000 - $44,004.
Job Description
BASIC PURPOSE:
Under direction of the Director of Golf, this position will manage the operation and maintenance of a state-owned public golf course and pro shop. Incumbents in this position perform responsible work at a state park or other facility in operating and maintaining a golf course and pro shop. Incumbents will oversee all operations of the golf course, including grounds maintenance, collection of fees and upkeep and repair of equipment, and will supervise the golf course staff performing these functions.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Runs daily operations at an 18-Hole golf course with emphasis in operating within a budget, scheduling proshop and maintenance employees, collecting of fees, providing excellent customer service, promoting golf course, and running golf tournaments.
  • Supervises a medium size staff, including an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, groundskeepers, laborers, park attendant and sales clerks; will supervise and train employees; supervises the seeding, sodding and/or planting of grounds; supervises the maintenance of greens, traps, hazards, roughs, and other course features.
  • Operates and/or supervises the operation of the golf course pro shop; collects green and other cost fees; orders, inventories and sells golfing equipment, such as clubs, golf balls, tees, and shoes.
  • Supervises the maintenance and repair of mowers, golf carts and other golf course equipment.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports as required.
  • May furnish information and instruction to beginning and intermediate golfers.
  • Performs related work as required and assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the methods and techniques involved in the maintenance and care of fairways, greens and other golf course facilities and equipment; of common plant and grass diseases and pests and their treatment; of the principles of business management applicable to a public golf course and pro shop; ability to supervise the work of others; to maintain effective working relationships and public relations; to formulate goals and objectives; to apply rules and regulations; to maintain records and prepare reports; to use basic computer applications such as Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel and SharePoint; to perform basic computer tasks such printing, scanning and electronic filing; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Education and Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in professional golfing work; OR completion of the curriculum requirements or a baccalaureate degree in agronomy or horticulture; OR
sixty (60) semester hours of accredited college coursework (any major) and two (2) years of professional golfing experience which must involve the operation and management of a pro shop, golf course and/or golf program; OR has completed the PGA PGM program and is registered with the PGA of America.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants for this position must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license to operate state vehicles at the time of appointment, be willing to work irregular hours including nights and weekends; also, must pass a thorough background check.
