Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the (Customer Service Supervisor at Goodson, Lone Tree and Buck Recreation Centers), this position serves as the Supervisor on Duty in the absence of other facility leadership while performing customer service duties. Cash handling and/or collection included. Responsible for administering and enforcing facility rules and policies, including leadership during emergency situations. The position effectively handles a variety of customer situations and is responsible for fostering superior customer service and communicating issues to the appropriate supervisor. The job may require shifts ranging from morning to evening hours, weekends and holidays.

Essential Duties:

  • Serve as manager on duty in the absence of other facility leadership, which may include troubleshooting facility/programming issues, responding to emergencies and handling difficult customer service items.
  • Perform Customer Service Representative duties including, but not limited to processing payments for registrations, passes and admissions, cash reports, assisting guests, and answering phone calls.
  • Provide superior customer service and strives to create a positive customer experience to promote on-going and repeat business.
  • Respond to facility related emergencies such as evacuations, medical emergencies, suspicious behavior, etc. Includes completing incident and accident reports, and following up accordingly to district procedures in a timely manner. Correct or inform supervisor of any facility hazards; completes routine walkthroughs of facility and locker rooms.
  • Ensure that facility rules and safety standards are followed, while providing positive customer service.
  • Remains actively visible and engaged with staff and customers in the facility.
  • Keeps abreast of Center and District programs, schedules, policies and procedures to effectively share information with customers and staff.
  • Opens and closes the Center as necessary, following proper procedures. Ensure that building is empty and secured when closing at night. Open and close desk operations including lights, computer, copier, register, materials, supplies and fiscal records.
  • Close out cash register, count money, complete daily cash reports.
  • Perform basic maintenance as necessary, i.e., wipe down counters; stock locker/bathroom supplies; report building maintenance requirements.
  • Communicate issues/complaints to supervisor as needed.
  • Assists in training of part-time/seasonal staff.
  • Set up and/or take down rooms as necessary; including setting up tables and chairs, audiovisual equipment, etc.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis; sub for co-workers when available; is responsible for securing substitutes for shifts unable to work.
  • May be required to work special events and/or after hour rental as deemed necessary by supervisor.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age with a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) years of experience in recreation, customer service, or other closely related field preferred.
  • Previous customer service and computer experience is required.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Current certifications in AED/CPR and First Aid or the ability to obtain such certifications within thirty (30) days of employment.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and general office equipment (computer, copier, fax, telephone, etc.).
  • Knowledge of recreational programming and facility operations; customer service principles; working with registration, point of sale and facility scheduling software programs.
  • Proficiency with applicable computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Possess basic math skills and have the ability to handle money and operate a point-of-sale system.
  • Must have the ability to perform multiple functions at once and the ability to handle the public in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally; establish and maintain working relationships with employees and the public.

Material and Equipment Used:

This position regularly uses office equipment and supplies such as a computer, cash register, credit-card machine, calculator, telephone, printer and fax machine. May be required to utilize cleaning materials and have contact with various chemicals for cleaning.

Working Environment:

This position primarily works in a busy recreation facility/pro shop and office environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. Requires considerable movement around the facility/work area to monitor activities. Requires sitting (or standing) at a desk 75% or more of assigned shift in a busy office environment. Must be able to work in an environment with various temperatures, poor acoustics and an array of distractions, i.e. music. Moderate mental effort is required. Daily moderate mental pressure exists due to exposure to interpersonal conflicts.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to frequently bend, walk, kneel, stoop, reach and lift in performance of duties. Will be required to assist in lifting and moving tables, chairs, and cabinets, etc. to maximum of 75 pounds with assistance and frequent unassisted lifting to a maximum of 30 pounds. Vision requirements include: near acuity, far acuity, depth perception and color vision. Requires sense of smell and touch. Must exhibit manual dexterity to manipulate keyboards, calculators, and telephone systems. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is needed.
